Israel Is Not the Root of the Mideast Conflict

With the publication of The Iraq Study Group Report by James Baker and Lee Hamilton in 2006, this pressure to end the war in Iraq is joined hand in hand with the pressure to allow a two-state solution in Israel and the West Bank. . . .

This view implies that the Arab-Israeli conflict is the root of all of the instability in the entire Mideast region–an assertion that could not be further from the truth. What does Israel have to do with al Qaeda attacks on Shia Muslims in Iraq? What does Sudan’s policy of genocide in Darfur have to do with Israel? This warped thinking is exactly what the enemies of Israel use to divert the attention of Americans away from the real sources of instability in the Middle East–like the Islamic revolution that continues unabated in Iran.

. . . Regardless of what is to be done to bring closure to America’s military involvement in Iraq, our government must never adopt policies that will leave Israel weaker and her enemies emboldened.
